The Workouts

Welcome to the Cycling for Parkinson’s workout library.

Here you will find links to all our pre-recorded, on-demand workouts. You can click the column headers to sort by workout title, category, or duration. To begin a workout, click the Start Workout link. You will be redirected to the Velocity app. If you are logged in, you will go directly to the workout, or you’ll be asked to log in. Each workout includes a short educational component – a video from a movement disorders clinician on topics specific to Parkinon’s, info on exercise, training techniques, nutrition, hydration, and much more. Ride, get fit, and learn!

Pre-ride Warmup15 minutes

This is a short warmup that is perfect to get you ready for a 30 or 45-minute workout. Doing the pre-ride warmup will prepare you to get the most benefit from your following workout. Plan to finish the workout within five minutes of your next workout.

One-Minute Tempo Builds / NOH, 30 minutes

After a good warmup you will do two sets of 3-minute high tempo / low threshold builds. This workout also includes a 5-minute video during one of the recovery steps from Nurse Practitioner Sherrie Gould on Neurogenic Orthostatic Hypotension (NOH), or low blood pressure.

Hill Simulation / Micrographia30 minutes

Hill Simulation – Following a solid warmup you will do two 4-minutes sets of simulated hills. A great workout to train your body to manage lactic acid. This workout also includes a 2-minute video during one of the recovery steps from Nurse Practitioner Sherrie Gould on micrographia, or small hand writing.

Threshold 30/30's / Fatigue30 minutes

Threshold 30/30’s / Fatigue– Following a solid warmup you will do two sets of five 30/30’s – 30 seconds at zone 5 then 30 seconds recovery. This is a short, hard workout to help you with overall fitness. This workout also includes a video during one of the recovery steps from Nurse Practitioner Kathy Huynh on fatigue in Parkinson’s.

Endurance 3x5min / Urinary Issues30 minutes

Endurance 3x5min / Urinary Issues– Following a short warmup you will do three five-minute endurance efforts. This is a great workout for building your aerobic engine and overall fitness. This workout also includes a short video from nurse practitioner Sherrie Gould on urinary issues that can occur in people with Parkinson’s.

One-minute Threshold Builds / Atypical30 minutes

One-minute Threshold Builds / Atypical– Following a solid warmup you will do two sets of builds that ramp up to zone 5, your threshold zone. This is a great workout for building overall fitness and anaerobic adaptation. This workout also includes a short video from nurse practitioner Sherrie Gould on atypical Parkinsonisms.

Steady State Endurance / Silent, 30 minutes

This is a 24-minute endurance ride with no narration designed for when you either want to ride in silence or chat with your teammates without my interruption.
